Try to focus on anything else but your worries. Focusing on something else will allow you to take your mind off what you're worrying about and relax you a little bit to where you're not so anxious all the time.

Well here in the UK religious education includes the 6 major religions (by 2001 census results) you are likely to encounter when living in Britain.

About 75% of people claim some religious affiliation here out of the total population and about 72% of total self identify as christian.

Now I don't like it particularly but we do have a national religion here in the form of the Church of England of which our head of state (the Queen) is also head and at present the CofE holds seats in the House of Lords (the upper house of our governmental system consisting of unelected peers).

So although our official national religion is christianity and the majority of people here claim adherence to it we still make a point of being inclusive of other religions including educating our children to understand them and permitting certain religious holidays to qualify for time off work. For example Jewish people are not required to work on a Saturday, Muslims may drop everything to pray when their faith demands it, Sikhs may carry knives (but must prove that they are Sikhs when challenged). In spite of all that though minority religions are still just that, minorities and a democracy caters to the majority as it should do.

The only real reason is that there is a majority culture in power, and many people in the world, no matter their rhetoric on tolerance, do not like strange or foreign things. It's human nature.

You would be much better off not teaching any religions in schools and celebrating secular holidays.

It is all so incongruous [ironic] isn't it? Think about it. Non believers despise God and Christianity meanwhile, remove all traces of it from the Western world - only to have it replaced by some other stringent form of beliefs of a foreign nature, to be force upon them. If you think Christianity is bad wait until some other groups impose their belief system upon you. Governments will soon bow to the pressure because they want to attract foreigners to replenish the lagging white population, in terms of pension funds require propping up, a tax base is essential for maintaining roads etc. This is all going to prove so ironic to people who hate Christianity. Think Christianity is bad, wait until the other religions take over (you cannot have a vacuum).

I live in California, which is one of the most diverse and liberal states in the country. Even here, there are many people pushing to have Christian beliefs put over non-Christians. When Prop 8 passed last year, Christian beliefs were very often used as it's defense (it was a bill to ban gay marriage by amending the state constitution).

Other beliefs, such as Islam, would be ridiculed and there would be immense outrage at even the mere suggestion of Islamic beliefs or holidays influencing secular life. There are other states, such as Texas, where the Bible is now being required to be taught. If the Quran were required, I wouldn't be surprised if a second Civil War erupted.

While I do think the U.S. has a great amount of diversity and tolerance, we are not at the point where religion is seen from an unbiased point of view.

Australia is not a Christian nation, unlike the US, we have absolutely no ties whatsoever by anybody related to the forming of our nation, nor on our money, nor in society today that remotely suggests that we are Christian.

Australia is a secular society, majority Christian, but nonetheless secular and with less fundamentalist than America.

Muslim population has been on the increase and I don't see why a large amount of muslim festivals can't be celebrated openly just like a large amount of other religious and cultural festivals are. Its not going to be a thing everybody has to participate in.

Edit: Shame on you Heavy Metal Jesus, you assumed he was talking about America... That's not cool, Australia is important too!

The West may pride itself on its diversity and tolerance, but it still has Christianity as the majority religion. So it's the "default mode". Ditto Islam in the Middle East.

Western Europe is an interesting case, what with the vast majority of the population being non-religious and yet public holidays are based on Christianity. It's a historical legacy, I suppose.

The trouble is you can't accommodate everyone the way they want, and this is where multiculturalism falls down. For example, if muslims all insisted on having Fridays off instead of Sundays we'd have economic chaos.
