Going on a holiday to Europe. Anyone know anything about Camping Card International?

Going to Europe for a holiday this year and was thinking of purchasing a camping card (camping card international). $25.00AU. Can anyone tell me if it is beneficial or widely regarded in Europe at camping grounds? Really appreciate any advice? P.S. Any travel advice would be great. Travelling with 2 small children (4 and 6 years old) plus another couple.

    Never heard of it.

    Can I suggest?
Why not go hostelling-its safe clean and you get to meet like minded travellers/holiday people like yourself.

    Give it a try!

Enjoy your holiday whichever you choose

I don’t know it personally, but from what I read – I’m actually not very impressed.

For example it gives a list of 261 sites in the Netherlands where it is accepted, which is pretty good – but then in Britain only 89 which is useless. France is better with 592 sitrs.

First of all, if you have an idea of the countries you want to visit – then cross the area’s you have in mind against their list.

It also does not give that much discount, so this is not a major advantage either.

Secondly – do you get a handbook to take with you? If you have to print all the info off in advance, then you can also search for them yourself and print it anyway – thus saving $25.00.

It also depends on what kind of campsites you are looking for and what they offer – from the glam ones with all facilities, pools, pubs, nightlife etc – right down to a field with a running tap (if you are lucky). That’s no fun with two kids that young!

I used to go camping every year with my parents (albeit in a caravan) and they were a member of a organisation, but nowadays, unless there is a discount to be had, and if it is just a case of needing to do some advance research – then I would not bother. However on the other hand, $25.00 is not much if you are touring around a lot (different site every day or couple of days) and it might be easier to have this handbook.

I know I haven’t “answered” the question, but there really are too many variables and it really depends on what you want from them.

Wish you much luck and a lot of fun
